0700 CONCERT CHORUS (C1) (9, 10, 11, 12) Y 5 A full-year course; no audition required.
Concert Chorus will perform choral literature from a variety styles and periods. No audition is required. Attention is given to the development and improvement of sight-reading skills, muisc theory, and healthy singing techniques. Occassional after school rehearsals apply; sometimes performs with other chorus sections. Students wear concert attire as determined by the director. Concert Chorus members are expected to perform in all scheduled concerts and events.
0702 ORCHESTRA (C1) (9, 10, 11, 12) Y 5 A full-year course.
Orchestra includes all 9th grade orchestral players along with students from
other grades. Strings students may enroll without audition; wind, brass, piano
and percussion players audition for the director of the ensemble. Orchestra
performs a variety of orchestral literature, primarily arrangements from the
Romantic period. The course includes fundamentals of theory, sight-reading,
and musical form. Occassional after or before school rehearsals apply. Students
wear concert attire as determined by the director. Orchestra members are expected
to perform in all scheduled concerts and events and will periodically combine
with Symphony or Sinfonietta for major works.
0703 ORCHESTRA/HONORS (H) (9, 10, 11,12) Y 5 A full-year course. Prerequisite:
instructor approval.
See above description of Orchestra. Honors students are graded on a more rigorous
scale and complete a performance project each semester or complete advanced
projects in music theory in preparation for the AP Music Theory Exam to be taken
Junior or Senior year. It is recommended, but not required, that students also
take lessons on their instrument.
0705 SINFONIETTA (10,11,12) Y 5 A full-year course. Prerequisite: instructor approval.
Sinfonietta is primarily for string players who have skills beyond an intermediate level. Other instrumentalists may be admitted. Sinfonietta performs intermediate and advanced string orchestra literature, from 1600 to present. The course includes fundamentals of theory, sight-reading, and musical form. Occassional after or before school rehearsals apply. Students wear concert attire as determined by the director. Sinfonietta members are expected to perform in all scheduled concerts and events and will periodically combine with Orchestra or Symphony for major works.

The concert band performs concert repertoire of all styles. Students rehearse on Wednesday evenings during football season. Students wear concert attire as determined by the director and will need lace up black dress shoes for marching season. Concert Band members are expected to perform in all scheduled concerts and events and periodically combine with Jazz Band for many performances. Performances include concerts, parades, and marching in football half-time shows.
0704 JAZZ BAND (H) (9, 10, 11, 12) Y 5 A full-year course, by audition only. Prerequisite: by audition only.
The Jazz Band is an advanced instrumental ensemble which performs repertoire from various styles of jazz. Students learn jazz scales and harmonies, and develop jazz improvisational skills. Extra rehearsals apply. Jazz Band members are expected to perform in all scheduled concerts and events and will periodically combine with Concert Band for performances. Performances include concerts, parades, marching in football half-time shows, and extra performances in the community. Students rehearse on Wednesday evenings during football season. Students wear concert attire as determined by the director and will need lace up black dress shoes for marching season.
0711 OCTETS (H) 2 1/2 credits A full-year course, by audition only. Prerequisite:
By audition only.
An advanced A cappella ensemble which sings popular music in eight-part harmony.
Priority is given to students with advanced sightreading and vocal technique
skills. Octets members must be active members in good standing in either Sachem
Chorus. Rehearsals are in the afternoon or evening. Occassional extra rehearsals
apply. Students wear concert attire as determined by the director. Students
in this ensemble can expect an active performance schedule.
0722 SACHEM CHORUS (C1) (10, 11, 12) Y 5 A full-year course, by audition only. Prerequisites: #700 Concert Chorus, #720 or #721Treble Chorus or instructor approval, and a successful audition.
Sachem Chorus is designed for advanced Juniors and Seniors. They will perform choral literature from a variety styles and periods. (Sophomores may occassionally be placed in this chorus if needed to balance the Sop, Alto, Tenor, Bass sections.) Attention is given to advanced sight-reading skills, music theory, and healthy singing techniques. Occasional after school rehearsals apply; sometimes performs with other chorus sections. Students wear concert attire as determined by the director. Sachem Chorus members are expected to perform in all scheduled concerts and events.
0723 SACHEM CHORUS/HONORS (H) (11, 12) Y 5 A full-year course, by audition only. Prerequisites: #700 Concert Chorus or instructor approval, and a successful audition.

0724 CHAMBER SINGERS (H) 2 1/2 credits. (10, 11, 12) A full-year course, by audition only. Prerequisite: By audition only.
Chamber Singers is an advanced A cappella ensemble which sings a variety of music, such as madrigals and vocal jazz. Priority is given to students who have developed advanced sightreading and vocal technique skills. Students in Chamber Singers must be active members in good standing in either Sachem Chorus.. Rehearsals are in the afternoon or evening. Students in this ensemble can expect an active performance schedule. Occassional extra rehearsals apply. Students wear concert attire as determined by the director.
0710 AFTER SCHOOL CHORUS (C1) 2 1/2 credits (9, 10, 11, 12) A full-year course; Prerequisite: instructor approval.
After school chorus is primarily for students whose membership in a band or orchestra precludes them from enrolling in chorus during the class day. Students work on intermediate sight-reading skills, vocal techniques and choral repertoire. Class meets directly after school 2 afternoons a week and occasionally at other times for rehearsals combined with other groups. Students wear concert attire as determined by the director. After School Chorus members are expected to perform in all scheduled concerts and events.
