(Ninth graders who have already completed two full years of French in grades 7 and 8 enter the high school in French 2)

2112 FRENCH 1 (9, 10, 11, 12) 5-5
This course is intended both for students with no previous background in French and for those who need a thorough review before proceeding into French 2. It covers the same basic curriculum as French 7 and French 8 and, upon successful completion, students may go on to French 2.

2122 FRENCH 2 (9, 10, 11, 12) 5-5
Viens Voir, Chapters 1-7 Covers irregular verbs, reflexive verbs, imperfect tense, passé; composé; future and conditional, as well as a review of the major points of the first level text.

2132 FRENCH 3 (C1) (10, 11, 12) 5-5
Viens Voir, Chapters 9-15, Histoire d'une Revanche, and selected episodes from the TV series French in Action. Covers irregular verbs, the subjunctive mood, uses of the infinitive and additional points of grammar.

2143 FRENCH 4 (H) (11, 12) 5-5
C'est Ca: Chapters 1-7 Covers advanced grammar and broadened communicative practice for higher-level proficiency. Other materials used include Le Petit Prince, La Lecon, Au Revoir les Enfrants, Saint-Germain video and French in Action. Upon successful completion of French 4, students may go on to French 5 or Advanced Placement French language.

2153 FRENCH 5 (H) (12) 5-5
Course entirely in French. Students read and discuss a number of novels, (including Sartre's Les Jeux Sont Faits), plays and short stories (including several by Maupassant). In addition, there are major oral presentations and outside readings. Emphasis on developing oral proficiency and reading comprehension as well as on written expression.

2164 ADVANCED PLACEMENT FRENCH (AP) (12) 5-5
The AP course prepares the student for the Advanced Placement examination in French language and will include the basic curriculum of French 5 plus the intensive speaking, listening, reading, and writing practice necessary for success on the AP exam. Successful completion of this course is the equivalent of a third-year college French conversation and composition class. Admission by permission of the Coordinator of World Languages only.

Exchange and Trip


French Exchange This year for the first time in many years WHS is having a French exchange. 15 students from France will be coming here in February. 10 students will be going there in April. They will be staying in Saint Germain-en-laye it is about 30 minutes outside of Paris. The chaperones will be Ms. Bentley and Ms. Zack
